Can you Bring Pizza to a Potluck?
Whether you are short on time, lack basic cooking skills, or just not in the mood to make something for a potluck, buying premade pizzas can be a good option.
There are a few things that you will need to consider when bringing pizza to a party to ensure that you don’t break any party etiquette rules. Don’t worry we will go over everything you need to know!
How to bring pizza to a party:
Here are my tips on how to bring pizza to a potluck party where everyone is happy including the potluck host, and everyone is fed!
1. Double Cut
The average pizza place cuts a pizza into 8 equal slices. A potluck party has people trying little bits of lots of dishes, so ask your pizzeria to “double cut” your pizza. This way each pizza will have 16 slices. (This works especially well for kid’s parties and ones with lots of food options.)
2. Keep it Basic
You may love a sardine and pickle pizza, but most people will want the basics like plain cheese or pepperoni. If you do want to have specialty pizzas, make sure that at least 75% of the total pizzas are basic. So, if you are bringing 10 pizzas, make 3 of them specialty like Supreme or Hawaiian, and then have 7 of them be a mix of plain cheese and pepperoni.
3. Timing
Now that you can place online orders for pizza, you can also control the timing. If your potluck starts at 12pm, consider having the pizza delivered a little earlier than the start. This will ensure that the pizza is fresh and hot when it is time to eat.
4. Quantity
If you are bringing pizza to a potluck party, it would be considered rude if there is not enough for everyone. As a good rule of thumb, you will want at least 1 pizza for every 10 people. So, if there will be 50 people, consider bringing at least 5 pizzas double cut.
5. Homemade vs Buying
Unless the location of the party has a huge kitchen or outdoor pizza oven, skip the homemade pizza unless it is a dessert pizza. Making them yourself at the party will turn into a “Make your own pizza” bar and will pretty much take up all your time at the party. (Unless you want an excuse to not mingle at the potluck! Just make sure to clear it with the host first because they may be wanting to use the kitchen for other cooking during the party.)
6. Dessert Pizza
Dessert pizzas are super easy to make, and they are a huge crowd pleaser. The great part is that they can be served chilled or room temperature, so you don’t have to keep them piping hot. Get creative with the crust and use sugar cookie dough, pie dough, or even premade cinnamon rolls as the base. The sauce can be pudding of a variety of flavors or even whipped topping.
The best part of the dessert pizza is topping it with an array of sliced fruits. You can mix it all up or make really cool patterns and designs on the top of the pizza.
Is it ok to bring pizza to a potluck?
It is totally fine to bring a pizza to a potluck as long as you do it the right way. No one wants you to throw a barely warm pizza box on the table and call it done.
All you need to do is use these easy-to-follow tips to ensure that the potluck is a success and that you get invited to next potluck party!
Pizza is always a huge crowd pleaser and especially for younger children and teens. Don’t stress bringing pizza to the party, just do it in a classy way.
